Helen Dunmore
Helen Dunmore was born in Beverley, Yorkshire in 1952. She has lived in Bristol for nearly 30 years. This is the first Great Reading Adventure to focus on a local author and is part of a year-long celebration of Bristol creativity,
Adult Fiction
Childrens Fiction
The Siege
which will also include festivals, a major programme of art in schools, and new projects to promote cultural activity throughout the city.
The Soviet Union at War
Bristol at War
Helen has had considerable success as a writer of poetry and fiction for adults and children. She has been translated into 16 languages and her books sell throughout the world. The Guardian called her ‘An electrifying and original talent, a writer whose style is characterised by a lyrical, dreamy intensity’.

On these pages you can read about her poetry, adult fiction and children’s fiction. You can find a detailed bibliography of Helen’s work on the Bibliography and Resources page.

Reader Contributions
Events and Competitions Bristol's Great Reading Adventure has gone from strength to strength, and I feel honoured and delighted that my books have been chosen
for 2005.

I hope that people in Bristol will get a lot of pleasure from their reading over the next two months, and will enjoy the themes which are being explored.

Previous Great Reading Adventures have appealed to a wide cross-section of people in the city. I hope 2005 will see even more people joining in, and an even wider range of participants.
